Raising Awareness of AIDS

Even though the prevalence of HIV/AIDS infection rates in Cambodia has shown a decrease since last year's records of 2.8% to 2.6%, it is regarded as a substancial number considering the relatively small population of Cambodia. There are significant numbers of orphans and chronically ill as a result of AIDS, with the death rate statistics also being of concern. There is no doubt that this issue requires an extraordinary intervention with support and care for all involved.

To contribute toward the eradication of HIV/AIDS impact among the vulnerable communities, CVD - with the support of Khana organization - organized a special event at a local boat racing contest which was held on November 1st 2004. The main purpose of this important event was to raise public knowledge and awareness of HIV/AIDS and Sexually Transmitted Infections (STIs) and to reduce stigmatization and discrimination of people living with HIV/AIDS.
