Old man chopping rattan to bind a mat
The target population are working on mat weaving. This is
a part of an Income Generation Activity (IGA). IGA is one
of the outputs of the Community-Based Rehabilitation (CBR)
program which form in the sphere of self-help group (SHG).
The main purpose of this SHG is to strive for personal,
social and community economic development of the
members through mutual and collaborative work.
Why does CVD organize SHG? One of the aims in development
work is that the work should lead to overall development
of families, which includes security in term of basic needs
such as food, health, and education. This security must be
sustainable. One aspect of the sustainability is that the
families continue to enjoy their basic needs even after CVD
withdraws its services. This mean that the community has to
take over the development process initiated by the external
agency, and continue to cater to the needs of its members.
