Informal meeting with the villagers to orient SHG concept
This picture shows of an informal meeting session with the local
villagers. The CVD staff explore the motivation and engagement
of the participation in self help groups (SHG). We understand that
the rural society has been broken down in terms of community. One
of the concerns expressed was that some development workers
worried that small collaboration groups fracture the community by
dividing villagers into small isolated groups. CVD's belief is that this
is not true because the affinity and homogeneity are used to bring
people together in small groups to realize their personal, social and
economic development. In fact SHG is the first stage or means to
build individual capacity of the disadvantaged sections of the
villagers and thus enabling them to take on greater role in the
greater community.
